Let's Watch ECW #54

I'm taking a trip back in time to the early days of ECW. I'm starting with the first episode of Hardcore TV after "The Night The Line Was Crossed", which occurred on February 5, 1994. This is before "Extreme", back when ECW was still Eastern Championship Wrestling. Consider this your viewing guide to the ECW archives on the WWE Network.

ECW #54

Enjoy the spoils of Paul E.'s successful litigation against World Championship Wrestling!

We start with some still pictures from that big ECW Arena show on April 16, 1994. We learn that Mr. Hughes cost the Bruise Brothers their tag title match. They fight to the back, but Hughes was supposed to fight Terry Funk. No problem. Paul E. suggests Funk fight Sabu instead! But wait! Some masked "flunkies" show up to help Paul E. One unmasks to reveal himself to be...Beautiful Bobby Eaton! But Funk has some backup as well in the form of...Arn Anderson! What am I watching? I could've sworn this is ECW. Paul E. promises us the rest of the story. Roll that opening montage!

Styles promises much, much more...PLUS details on an upcoming card entitled "When Worlds Collide". We get video of the Eaton and Anderson debuts. I remind you that stills were shown mere minutes ago. We watch masked Eaton's attack help Sabu beat Funk. Commissioner Tod Gordon flies into the ring, and gets knocked out by Eaton and Paul E. Moments later, Arn runs in to save Funk. The ECW Arena reacts as you'd expect. I can't believe I'm seeing Sabu vs. Arn Anderson.

He learn The Pit Bull beat J.T. Smith for the TV Title (stunned, right?). Jason is repping Pit Bull. I like Pit Bull's promos. He's got some fun stuff to say. Jason is a waste, but that blazer without a shirt underneath is a winning look. They hype a match between Pit Bull and The Tazmaniac. Pit Bull's Spanish is spotty at best, but his intensity is fun.

That leads into a match between Tazmaniac and..."Stormin'" Mike Norman! Pit Bull stays on as guest commentator, and basically says he'd no-sell Tazmaniac's finisher. He also says Tazmaniac must ask himself, will Pit Bull kill to keep the ECW Television Championship? KILL to keep the TV CHAMPIONSHIP!

How'd that Human Cage Match work out? Well, Mr. Hughes interfered and cost the Bruise Brothers their shot at the tag team championships held by The Public Enemy. On this night, we get to see brothers Ron and Don Harris take down Bad Company: Paul Diamond and "The Sensei" Pat Tanaka. Styles discusses a past attack on Tanaka by the P.E. I believe he suggests that Tonya Harding stole their idea in attacking Nancy Kerrigan. ECW was truly cutting edge. Styles also admits he has no clue which Bruise Brother is which.

Now, it's time for interviews! Terry Funk and Arn Anderson! Funk suspects a WCW invasion, and he wants to know whose side Arn is on. Arn says he was only at the ECW Arena to keep an eye on Bobby Eaton. Arn also explains why they put erasers on pencils.

Paul E. talks alongside Bobby Eaton. He says Sabu is the heir to Funk's throne, and Funk isn't man enough to beat Sabu. Also, Paul E. wants to know why Arn Anderson wants to forget about the Dangerous Alliance.

This is all to set up a tag team match at "When Worlds Collide": Terry Funk & Arn Anderson vs. Sabu & Bobby Eaton.

Finally, we get to watch Peaches lash her husband, The Sandman, 10 times with a leather strap! This all thanks to Sandman losing to Tommy Cairo. But wait! The Sandman fires up and takes down Cairo. He grabs Peaches for a moment before Cairo intervenes once again. All appears well as they make their way back down the aisle. But wait! Woman is in the crowd and goes after Peaches! She drags her back to the ring and into the clutches of The Sandman. Sandman pulls up Peaches' skirt, and Woman lashes her bare ass. Yikes.

We cut straight The Eagle's Nest, where Styles is sitting with The Sandman. Joey announces an upcoming mixed tag team match at the ECW Arena. The Sandman & Woman vs. Tommy Cairo & Peaches. What will the National Wrestling Alliance say? Styles calls it "a match with international significance", and he ain't lying. It will be the first-ever Singapore caning match, with the loser to be caned after the match. Topical wrestling story lines are fun!
